Blog: Creating Moria's Soundtrack
2024/08/27
We’re excited to share that with the launch of the Golden Update we have also launched The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria™ Soundtrack! Singing has been one of the pillars of the game from the start, and it’s a feature that’s close to our hearts as developers—and we know it’s something the community has come to love too!
The soundtrack includes 34 tracks, a mix of songs from Tolkien’s stories adapted for the game, as well as brand-new ones composed by Songwriter Teddy Edelston alongside our Music Designer Max Lescohier and Composer Jason Butler. We had the honor of working with some incredible singers and musicians who have sung for the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and San Francisco Opera.
When we set out to create the soundtrack, we dove deep into what makes dwarven culture so special. Dwarves are known to be fond of drinking and mining, but they’re also so much more than that. They’re hardworking, caring, and incredibly skilled craftspeople. We wanted the soundtrack to reflect that complexity, so we crafted music that’s as multi-dimensional as they are. You’ll hear everything from lively tavern songs to themes of love, camaraderie, and culture. We thought a folksy vibe, drawing inspiration from the American gold rush and sea shanties, really captured the spirit of the Dwarves, also.
The Return to Moria Official Soundtrack is available now as part of our Soundtrack & Digital Art Bundle on Steam here. This bundle includes all 34 original tracks, the Return to Moria Digital Art Exhibition, and the full game with all the latest content and features. If you’re curious about how the soundtrack came together, check out our Behind the Scenes interview with Max and Teddy below. Happy listening!
