Khahmûr fahin…
The forge is hot…
…and with it the RtM team are fortifying the upcoming expansion for The Lord of the Rings: Return to MoriaTM - Durin’s Folk!
With so many exciting features to look forward to in this expansion, we wanted to take a moment to let you know how we plan to share this info with you between now and release so you know what to expect.
If you’re a member of our Discord community, you may have noticed a message from Game Director, Jon-Paul Dumont (tharkun_frg) in the #dev-updates channel in early August explaining that the RtM Dev will be less visible in the Discord for a while as it was time to “buckle down and make sure Durin’s Folk is the expansion this community deserves.” They’ve been doing just that.

With the team working on the Durin’s Folk expansion and Title Update 6 (TU6, also known as version 2.0) which will be released to all players at the same time, we’ll be sharing details of what's to come in the following ways:
- Blogs
Between now and release, the team will be sharing details of new features and game mechanics in regular blog posts here on our official website. Whenever these blogs are posted, we’ll let the community know via our Discord and social channels. We’ll aim to cover as much info as we can in these blogs without spoiling the story of the expansion, but of course we know they’ll still be questions the community has, and that’s where our new Discord channel comes in (see below). - Sneak “Peak”
Keep an eye for the “Wandering Wizard” on Discord who may drop in to tease something about Durin’s Folk or TU6 now and again. Don’t worry if you miss him in the #rtm-general-chat, the community team will highlight these sneak peeks on occasion in the #dev-updates channel too. - Forge Talks
Keep an eye out for future Forge Talks in September and October, exact dates TBC based on the team’s schedule over the next few months. Once dates are confirmed they’ll be shared in our Discord channel as Events where the date and time will be displayed in your local timezone for ease of reference. - New FAQ Channel
We’re launching a new FAQ channel on our Discord called faq-durinsfolk this week! This new FAQ channel, which is live now, will be dedicated to the questions the community team has gathered from chats and socials about the upcoming expansion. The aim is to answer the most common questions we see about Durin’s Folk, as well as give a dedicated location within the Discord for these questions and answers for ease of reference. The channel will be updated regularly, as we gather more questions from the community and subsequent answers to your questions from the team.
We can’t wait to share everything you have to look forward to in Durin’s Folk, from popular community requests to whole new adventures and quests in Moria! So grab your Dwarf and get to the Dimrill Gate so you’re ready to experience all the expansion has to offer right from launch. If you’ve a friend who’s been on the fence about answering Lord Gimli’s call, now’s the perfect time to drag them to Moria to face the source of the shadow with you!
In the meantime, and ahead of the next Forge Talk, we wanted to discuss the role of NPCs in Durin’s Folk in a bit more detail…

Once you complete the campaign and open the Dimrill Gate, you’ll find Dwarves have come from all over Middle-earthTM to join your company. You will eventually be able to recruit up to 20 Dwarves to assist you in Moria. Outside the Dimrill Gate is a makeshift camp set up for Dwarves wanting to join. It is quite the sight to behold! These NPCs can take on tasks and jobs for you based on the equipment you give them, as well as play an important role in the story of Durin’s Folk.
If you haven’t reached the end of the campaign by the release of Durin’s Folk, worry not! As you proceed through the story, you’ll come across opportunities to rescue survivors of the original blast. These survivors behave like the NPCs you can recruit later and are very happy to see a familiar face in the dark! Plus it's some extra help around your base during the campaign!
Aside from the Dwarves who’ve arrived to help at the Dimrill Gate, Dwarven traders from across Middle-earth heard about the Lord of Moria and have set up camp outside the Doors of Durin. They’ve brought their wares with them and are ready to trade for some of the legendary materials and treasures of Moria. Chat with traders and take on supply requests that will send you venturing further into the mountains and setting NPCs to task to help you keep up with the demand.

Don’t forget to join our Discord to check out the new #faq-durinsfolk channel to see answers to some common questions about expansion gameplay and NPCs, as well as details about the upcoming Title Update 6. You can also Wishlist Durin's Folk now on Steam
